In dance over the past week, I feel that I have explored and found out my strengths and weaknesses in my Contemporary classes with Julia and Josie. Now that I have found out these points, I will know focus on them and continue to try and improve. In this blog post, I will explain the strengths and weaknesses Ive found, why I think this may have happened and how I will (if needed) improve.
Strengths:
- In my dance lesson this week, I found that one of my strengths was being versatile. This was because I was able to work independently and in a pair/team to create or clean a routine. This is a strength as it means I can work more confidently in both. It also means I will be able to create or clean routines no matter what situation (group/pair/solo etc) I am in.
- During my Contemporary lessons, I also found out that I can easily pick up the routines and in a pressured and professional environment. This is a strength as it means that in the future, I will be able to pick up dances in any situation I am, whether stressful or not. It also means that I can then start to clean routines, even when some people are starting to learn the routine.
Weaknesses:
- Over the past couple of Contemporary lessons, I have found that my flexibility has become an issue. This is because some of the moves which need more flexibility in places such as the legs, I find more challenging then others. I already knew this before these classes, however these classes has made it more evident. Because of this, I will now really focus on my flexibility by stretching on an everyday bases and practicing my splits everyday.
- Also, over the past couple of Contemporary lessons, I have found that the fluidity of my moves and the transitions between them have not been as clean as I would like it. This means that I need to start breaking down the routines slowly into sections and focus on how fluid I need to be and what elements need to be more elegant then others.
- My final weakness I found this week while in lessons was my performance. This was because although I knew the routines, I did not feel confident enough to perform them. This is because I generally like to clean and perfect the routine to the best of my ability before starting to perform it and adding in facial expressions. I feel like this will always be a weakness until I have cleaned a routine because it is the way I like to learn routines.
