Over the past week, I feel that I have had many strengths in my Jazz classes with Julia. I also have had some weaknesses which I now know that I need to focus on and improve. In this blog post, I will explain the strengths and weaknesses I've found, why I think this has happened and how I will improve.
Strengths:
- In my dance lesson this week, we have been learning a few new and exciting Jazz routines which will be featured in the show. I have found that during these lessons, I have been able to pick up the routines easily and in a quick and professional manner. This is a strength as I am then able to go and help others in the class if they are unsure on a part of the choreography or improve my performance of the routine more.
- During my dance lessons, my confidence has improved a lot. I have realised this because I have been contributing more of my ideas and getting more involved in group discussions. I have also found that I have been able to count the counts of the routine. This means I feel more confident not only speaking in front of my class but also taking a sense of leadership.
Weaknesses:
- Over the past couple of lessons, I have found that there had been many moves which involve using some sort of strength (e.g. core strength, upper body strength etc). I have found some of these moves challenging and so I have come to the conclusion that I need to improve my strength in my body. Now that I know this, I will now start to focus on this and start doing exercises to build up my strength.
- Once I had learnt the routine, I tended to find that my eye line/focus and was not facing the audience or where I was meant to be looking. Also, I found that I did not perform it to my full ability. This is generally because I do not feel confident enough to perform a routine when I've only just learnt it. Now that I know this, I will start to focus more on my eye line and my performance once I feel confident in the routine. This means I will start to practice this while I am in rehearsals.
- My final weakness I found this week was my agility. This is because I found that when I had to move quickly from the floor to standing, I found I wasn't there on the correct time. It was generally only a count behind, which isn't too bad because I would catch up with the next movement. However, I feel this defiantly needs to be improved so that I'm on the right count and that my agility improves. I can do this by building up my stamina and my strength, so that I am capable of getting in and out of the floor easily.
